Re-plug: Cricket failed to become an institution in Pakistan because here 'PM appoints cricket chief', says Imran Khan

Imran Khan, who is now the Prime Minister of Pakistan, had insisted back in 2016 that cricket in Pakistan had failed to become an institution because the Prime Minister appoints the PCB chief.

Khan, before coming into power, was vocal about cricket getting influenced by politics which led to the downfall of sport in the country.

"The reason cricket has, unlike elsewhere, failed to become an institution in Pak is because here PM appoints PCB Chief," he said in a tweet posted on March 27, 2016.

In 2018, Ehsan Mani was PM Imran's nomination to succeed Najam Sethi. In fact, Sethi had already resigned from his post when the news of Imran Khan taking oath as Prime Minister of the country was confirmed.

Now with Mani's tenure as PCB chairman almost completed, there have been speculations about Ramiz Raja getting picked as the new chief. Reportedly, PM Imran Khan is satisfied with Mani's performance, however, Mani himself is reluctant to continue for the next three years.
