After Moeen Ali's swashbuckling 58-run innings off 36 deliveries for Chennai Super Kings in match 27 yesterday in Delhi, the former Indian paceman drew parallels of his batting style and technique with Pakistan's erstwhile opener Saeed Anwar.

Nehra admired Ali's calmness and composure in approach which reminded him of Anwar's tranquil presence on the crease.

“Moeen (Ali) is a very chilled out and relaxed person. I see shades of Saeed Anwar in his batting. He never seems under pressure. He is a utility player and MS Dhoni is utilising him really well,” Nehra was quoted as saying in a video by Cricbuzz.

“Before today, he was only scoring 30 or 40 runs but now he has crossed that. If a player like Moeen Ali, who can contribute with both bat and ball, provides you with 40-45 runs after every three or four matches; then things will work out in your favour,” Nehra added.

Moeen Ali's innings went in vain though because Chennai couldn't defend an above-par 218 total as Kieron Pollard blitzkrieg got Mumbai Indians over the line in a nerve-jangling contest that went down to the wire. Pollard raced to 87 off 34 balls and overshadowed Ali's heroics.

Saeed Anwar was known for his impeccable timing and placement and he got Pakistan off to many sensational starts as he scored runs quickly and dominated the bowlers. Quick to pounce on width, he didn't give much room for error to the bowlers and they had to be on the top of their skills to confine the magnificent southpaw.
