Breaking News Sport Mohammad Abbas and Kyle Abbott wreaked havoc against Leicestershire as their top order slumped to 28 for 5 before play was stopped due to rain. Hampshire started day three on 223 for 7 under dark skies at the Ageas Bowl and added just ten runs to their overnight score before Leicestershire bowlers ran through their batting quickly. Ian Holland was the top-scorer for Hampshire CCC, with a solid 82 to put a reasonable total on board. Keith Barker struck first two balls of the day three with back-to-back boundaries before he was caught at gully for 24. Kyle Abbott was trapped leg-before and Brad Wheal soon followed. But the reply from Hampshire was astonishing with new ball bowlers Mohammad Abbas and Kyle Abbott tormenting Leicestershire batting, in conditions which were absolutely ideal for the Test grade quicks.  Opening batsman Hasan Azad survived six balls before getting out leg-before off Abbott’s bowling. His opening partner Sam Evans soon followed, and this ti

Babar Azam is the backbone of Pakistan team right now – Shahid Afridi

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi says Babar Azam is the backbone of his team right now, adding that the young batsman is a 'very fast learner'. Azam, who recently dethroned Virat Kohli as the top-ranked ODI batsman , has been on the rise over the last 2-3 years. His outstanding run had also earned him the captaincy of Pakistan side across all three formats. However, he added that there aren’t a lot of stars in the current side as compared to the previous era. “When we started out in 1996, there used to be 14 or 15 stars in a team,” he said in a TV show Sawal aired on Samaa News [as quoted by Samaa.tv]. When asked about his inspiration as an aspiring cricketer, Afridi named former Pakistan cricketer and now the Prime Minister of the country, Imran Khan .  “I always used to say to myself that if he could be blessed with such respect then why couldn't I?” Talking about his passion for the game and his early days, the former all-rounder mentioned that he was beaten up b

Such mismatch series shouldn't take place or people will start watching football: Ramiz Raja Former Pakistan batsman Ramiz Raja has stated that the two-match Test series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe should not have taken place as it was a poor advertisement for the longest format of the game. While talking on his YouTube channel, Raja said that one-sided series like these brings nothing to the table and that people lose interest in cricket and start watching football or any other sports. “Some people are of the opinion that when a weak team plays a strong one, you need to focus on what you learn from it rather than the outcome of the match. You learn from the stronger team’s process and the way it adapts to the changing situation of a game. But I don’t think Zimbabwe learned anything from this series because they were continuously dominated by Pakistan. Also, there was no difference in their performance in the second Test as compared to the first one,” said Raja on his official Yo

Liam Plunkett heartbroken on his omission from England team

Image
Liam Plunkett heartbroken on his omission from England team, says 'disappointed is an understatement' Veteran England paceman Liam Plunkett is unamused by the treatment of selectors and how they dealt with his removal from the England team. Being a mainstay in ICC 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups, he fell down the pecking order gradually - the story of Plunkett's career - and now the 36-year-old is being ignored as England prioritize giving opportunities to the young bowlers. However, what irked Plunkett the most was, what he felt, the lack of apt communication ahead of the New Zealand tour in 2019. Plunkett was shocked to see how he got to know about his omission from the team via Twitter and he felt it wasn't the right way to inform him that he is no longer part of England's future plans. “I can see where they were going it’s just the way it was done. I found out on Twitter that I wasn’t going to South Africa [New Zealand], surely they can give me a call. It was just

Sri Lanka Cricket steps forward to offer BCCI September window to complete IPL 2021

Sri Lanka Cricket steps forward to offer BCCI In wake of the horrific second wave of coronavirus in India and the surfacing of Covid positive cases among four Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, the world's richest Twenty20 cricket tournament was quickly shut off. And now failure to complete the remaining 31 matches could incur Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) losses of about 340 million USD. The chief of the managing committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Prof. Arjuna de Silva, is keen on offering a window to host IPL around September in Sri Lanka after the conclusion of the Lanka Premier League (LPL).  "Yes, we can certainly provide a window to host the IPL in the month of September. We hear the UAE (United Arab Emirates) is their one option but Sri Lanka can not be ignored for all reasons," de Silva was quoted as saying by DeccanChronicle. "We are planning to host the Lanka Premier League in July-August and the grounds and other infrastructure will

IPL may shift completely to Mumbai owing to Covid - Report

IPL may shift completely to Mumbai owing to Covid - Report The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking at reducing the risks and moving the rest of the tournament to Mumbai, as per ESPNcricinfo reports. If the board is successful in executing the plan is, the IPL could be shifted to Mumbai as early as this weekend. This will require a tweak in the tournament schedule, with multiple double headers planned. There is also a possibility of the IPL final being moved from May 30 to early June, which may affect the WTC final on June 18.  The challenge facing the BCCI in making the Mumbai plan go accordingly is to create the IPL bubble, which means finding hotels for the eight teams to stay in and preparing the stadium.  Importantly, all the three key grounds in Mumbai - Wankhede, DY Patil and Brabourne - were used during the first leg of the IPL in April. The Wankhede hosted 10 IPL matches, while the other two were used by various teams for training purposes.  On Monday BCCI m

Justin Langer hints at Marnus Labuschagne’s inclusion in T20 World Cup squad According to Australia's head coach Justin Langer, the chances of Marnus Labuschagne making it to the T20 World Cup squad are quite bright. Marnus has emerged as an unstoppable run machine for Australia since he first replaced Steve Smith at the Ashes 2019. He scored a fantastic 191 in the Sheffield Shield final last month to take his side to title glory. The stylish right-hander hasn't made his international T20 debut yet but has shown a lot of potential in white-ball cricket in just 13 ODI matches where he averages close to 40 and a strike rate of 91 is particularly attractive. Langer is extremely sure that Marnus will play all three formats of the game because of his great technique and ability to perform in tough situations. “That’s why I think Marnus Labuschagne is such a breath of fresh air and I am absolutely certain he will be able to play all three forms of the game. He will be a superstar in
