Yousuf says he is ‘excited by the response’ of Test squad players for Zimbabwe series


The likes of Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Abid Ali, Imran Butt, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, Shahnawaz Dhani, Nauman Ali, Tabish Khan, Sajid Khan, and Zahid Mahmood are training at the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore under the supervision of NHPC coaches.

“All the players are working extremely hard in the camp as we are preparing them as per the team management’s plan,” Yousuf said in a video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Yousuf, a veteran of 90 Tests, said a half-day, two full days and 50-over practice matches were played. He was also satisfied by the response of the batsmen to these different matches.

“A half-day, two full days and 50-over practice matches have been played in the camp. The batsmen have responded very well in these games,” he added.

He also added that different match scenarios were also created as players were tested on different pitches as the play goes on in a Test match. “We tried to train and test the players according to the pitches of the first, second, third, fourth and fifth day in a Test match. The way these players are working, hopefully they will do well in the upcoming series.”

The Test series will start on April 29. Pakistan Test squad have a rest day tomorrow (April 20) and will depart for Zimbabwe on April 21 at 3am.
