Ramiz Raja slams Pakistan team management approach despite series win over Zimbabwe

Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by 24 runs on Sunday to win a Twenty20 international (T20I) series 2-1 at Harare Sports Club. Mohammad Rizwan struck 91* off 60 while Hasan Ali excelled among the bowlers with a four-for to boost the visitors over the line.

It was a hard-fought series win as Luke Jongwe's all-round brilliance handed Zimbabwe a surprising 19-run victory in the second T20I. Following the results of the series, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja seemed unhappy with Pakistan's team management decisions and criticized their 'pathetic' approach.

“Fans and pundits that it would be a one-sided affair but we didn’t see anything like that in any of these three matches, however, Pakistan had to dig hard to beat a 12th ranked side. If it would have been another team, Pakistan could not have won the series. This was an average performance,” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel.

The 58-year-old believes that Pakistan should have gone with the mindset of experimenting and testing the bench strength in this series as the T20 World Cup is right around the corner.

“The performance stamps the mentality of the dugout as I think players are being told not to lose the match, no experiments, no unwanted chances and to play a strong team against Zimbabwe too,” he added.

The T20 series will be followed by two Tests, also in Harare, beginning on April 29 and May 7.
