'Nothing special about what he does' - Kevin Pietersen slams Chris Morris
South African all-rounder Chris Morris became the most expensive player in the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he was picked for INR 16.25 crore by Rajasthan Royals.
The all-rounder hasn't been able to justify his price tag so far in the tournament. Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who hails from Morris' country of origin, stated that there is nothing special about what Morris does and he's a bit overpaid. It must be noted that Morris is not even a part of the South Africa T20I team either.
"He’s not a first choice for the South African side. So, I think we’re expecting too much. There’s too much talk about him. I don’t think he’s the kind of guy that’s going to consistently deliver. I mean this with the greatest deal of respect, there’s nothing special about what he does, and if he does run-in, he’ll run in for two games. And then he’ll go missing for a few games and it’s not the kind of thing that you should be seeing. He has the attributes," Kevin Pietersen said.
He further maintained that the men in pink have paid a lot more money than what he should have got from his franchise.
"This is going to sound harsh, but he went for a lot more money than I would have ever paid for, to be completely honest. I just don’t think that he’s worth that kind of number. I think there’s pressure on him," KP added.
So far, the Rajasthan Royals have lost three of their first four games in the IPL 2021 and their last defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has exposed their bowling depth big time. In reply to RR's 178, RCB managed to win the match by 10 wickets courtesy of a fantastic maiden ton by Devdutt Padikkal.
